Your Photographer in Scotland

It’s easy to find a photographer, but it’s more of a challenge to find the right photographer for you. Hopefully I can help with that! I’m Karen, a down-to-earth and reliable professional photographer based near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands.

Beautiful images and great service

I’m passionate about creating beautiful images and providing a top notch service to all the clients I work with. I’m primarily a wedding photographer but I also specialise in family photography, commercial photography, and landscape photography workshops. When it comes to weddings and families, my approach is to keep the images as true to life and as natural as possible. As for commercial assignments, I work on a wide range of projects, but mostly interior photography, and images for developments such as wind farms and phone masts. Last but not least, there are my landscape photography workshops, where I get to share my passion with aspiring photographers.

About me…

If I’m going to have the pleasure of working with you, then I think it’s only fair that I tell you a bit about myself first!

Out and about

I love the outdoors, particularly the west coast and the Scottish islands. I know a lot of people are into Munro-bagging, but I confess that’s not me. I’d much rather be on the coast than up a mountain (perhaps because my camera bag weighs one and a half stone!). I’m slightly obsessed with the Scottish islands, to the extent that I got married on the beach at Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris and I’ve visited the remote archipelago of St Kilda three times! I walked the Fife Coastal Path for charity in 2014 and I’d love to do more long distance walks if I can ever find the time! I’m also a keen cyclist (despite owning a very girly bike) and I’m hoping to cycle the length of the Western Isles before I turn 40 (the clock is ticking…!).

Caravanning and colour coding!

When I was growing up in Perth, I spent weekends and school holidays caravanning around Scotland with my parents and brother. After every trip, my dad and I would push a colour-coded pin into the map of Scotland in my bedroom. When I hit my teens and it was time to re-decorate, I swear we could see the outline of Scotland in pinholes on the wall! Sadly my dad passed away from cancer in 2018, years before his time. I’ve picked up the baton and have bought myself a wee touring caravan so I can feel close to my dad, re-visit childhood haunts and try to re-discover the sense of freedom I relished back then. My caravan is definitely my ‘happy place’.

Inspiration

I live in the countryside on the Black Isle near Inverness with my husband Mark and our two guinea pigs, Angus and Woody! Our house overlooks the Cromarty Firth to Ben Wyvis and the surrounding hills. I lived in Edinburgh for ten years before moving up here, so I never take for granted the wide open space, big skies, and peace and quiet. Great inspiration for landscape photography and a spot of writing too! I love my life up here, staying in such a beautiful place, being my own boss, and earning a living from something which I’m genuinely passionate about.
